Success happens when the right people are brought together in one place at the right time. When it comes to gathering the most talented, creative North American handmade artists under one roof, you won’t find anywhere better or bigger than right here at the 2023 American Handcrafted Show. We are so excited to welcome you to this reunion of the craft community in the beautiful city of Philadelphia.

We are thrilled to present 250 artists, including
100 new artists to our show, representing all media, so you will be sure to make unique new discoveries for your store or gallery. We are introducing a new section to the show – Market Collection, a curated collection of products such as cards, wellness, gourmet foods, books, and unique gifts.

We have a dynamic line-up of events taking place during the show including buyer orientation sessions, hot topic panels, tours, our Awards Networking Night honoring buyers and artists, as well as our much loved
‘Show Us Your Order’ Sweepstakes drawings taking place daily at 3:30PM. Check out the full schedule here.

Join us as we welcome back the
Awards Networking Night on Sunday, February 26th, immediately after the show, at 5:30PM in the Lobby outside the show floor. Complimentary drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be served as we honor our Legacy Buyer Award recipients, and present artists awards for the best in sustainability, emerging artist, product and more.

The American Handcrafted team would like to thank you for your support of the many talented artists who join us each year. Your dedication to buying American made goods allows our artists to continue providing the world with beautiful, one-of-a-kind products that offer individuality and self-expression.

I look forward to seeing you at the show!

BOB BRUU
Bob Bruu Wood Carver
Founder & Owner

Growing up in an artistic household, with his father and grandfather encouraging his creativity from a young age, Bob Bruu, founder and owner of Bob Bruu Wood Carver, said “It wasn’t uncommon to see me with a crayon, pencil, pen, or marker in my hand” while growing up. From a young age, Bob used art as an activity to escape and drift away from what was going on around him – a passion that would grow into a lifelong project and career. Though, like many artists in the late 1980’s, life’s priorities came calling– marriage, kids, and a corporate job – Bob was focused on climbing the corporate ladder in telecommunications and software technology, while his artistic drive was relegated to the side-line.

It was around the same time that Bob discovered the magic of woodcarving as an artform. Learning from old masters at his local carving club in Saratoga, California, Bob started carving waterfowl – specifically ducks and birds – as a way to express his creative inspirations. Unbeknownst to Bob at the time, this passion would turn into a budding business and career in the decades to come.

Jump to the early 2010’s during a brief trip to Aspen, and nearly three decades into his corporate career, Bob found himself in an art gallery with renewed inspiration and rekindled creativity – prompting a desire to pursue his craft once again. It was at this time, Bob decided to really challenge himself to see what he could achieve, moving away from waterfowl into the hyperrealism associated with his work today. This new hyperrealism gives Bob’s work a “subtle presence that allows them to blend in as if they are part of the general scenery, just until the viewer takes notice that what looks like an everyday object is actually a wooden carving” he describes. Now, a decade in the making, Bob is carving full-time in a restored 100-year old barn on his property in historic downtown McKinney, Texas, carving each one of a kind piece by hand.

So, as you walk the halls of the American Handcrafted Show this February, you may find yourself making a double take at an old-school Boston Red Sox hat, when you’ve actually stumbled into Bob Bruu Wood Carver’s booth in booth space 811.

Historic Biltmore Village

We are proud to say that we are one of the largest Art and Craft galleries in the US with over 12,000 square feet representing American and Canadian artisans. John Cram, our founder, opened New Morning in 1972 with the vision of celebrating the rich art and craft heritage of the region as well as nationally. We deal with over 1000 artists, but we try to represent at least 500 in the gallery.

Sadly, John passed away in October of 2020, but New Morning is still owned by his family and his legacy lives on. We miss him everyday.

I'm very passionate about the arts and crafts because I am an artist and my father was an artist. I grew up learning about fine art and architecture at an early age and I appreciate the amount of work and love that every artist puts into their pieces. So when the job opportunity came about to work here, I jumped at the chance! This was over 28 years ago and I've loved it from the beginning.

Just about everyone that works at the gallery has some sort of art background or loves to be surrounded by imagination and beauty. All the staff work very hard to create unique displays and they love to interact with customers both local and visitors. We have over 20 people that help run the gallery.

I didn't really know much about fine craft until I started working at the gallery. John taught me about the process and sustainability of crafts. He said "Buy once. Love forever."

I've made a career for myself here and what I really love are all the wonderful relationships I have with the artists.

That's why it's always great to come to the American Handcrafted Show and visit everyone. It's like a family reunion! We always connect by email or phone during the year but at the Market it's a chance to catch up personally with people instead of always business, business. We always have a great time!

The American Handcrafted Market is the largest and the best market in the whole country! We look forward to it every year and are excited to meet new artists.

As a big fan of desserts, our Attendee Marketing Director, Elisabeth Mijuca, is always looking forward to the best desserts wherever she visits. This February she is looking forward to trying the key lime pie and Belgian chocolate cake from Tartes Pastry Shop. Located near the convention center, at 212 Arch Street, it’s the perfect spot for a quick afternoon and late night (shhhhh) snack.

Aside from fulfilling her sugar obsession, Elisabeth is also hopeful to go on the Yo Rocky Film Tour! She loves to watch movies with her family and is a big Sylvester Stallone fan. Hopefully she will get to run up those Rocky Steps.
